Saqqa khaneh

Saqqakhane is the name of small places for drinking water that was built on streets by inhabitants, so that anyone who was thirsty could drink water. In the middle of Inqilab Islami courtyard, there is an old saqqakhaneh that is famous as Golden Ismail Saqqakhaneh. The water container (Sangab) of this Saqqakhaneh is made of marble and has a capacity of 1130 liters. The marble was brought from Harat to Mashhad at the behest of Nader Shah Afshar. In the past that there were not water piping, people brought the water from the subterranean canals around Mashhad and poured it into the Sangab. In Fathali Shah Qajar era, at the behest of a person called Ismail, an octagonal structure with marble pillars were built around the Sangab and the roof was decorated with gold. So, this is famous as Naderi Saqqakhane or Gold Ismail Saqqakhaneh. In, 1966 due to passing time Saqqakhaneh became worn, so it was destroyed completely and rebuilt again. Also after the revolution, the structure was repaired.
